Underwater photography is in vogue. The creation of amazing underwater shots, worthy of gracing a magazine or gallery are appearing regularly online. To achieve this your camera obviously needs to go under the water as well, which gives you two options. One is to purchase a very expensive underwater housing for your DLSR camera, which could be an option if you have a private pool, live in a climate where the water temperature is over 20 degrees for more than two weeks a year and have the various accessories, weight belts, willing model’s etc. Not being able to fulfill those criteria I chose the second option, to buy a cheap (ish) point and shoot and get any available children to jump in, dive and basically fling themselves around while you try and stay underwater. Although it is not as easy as you think. Trying to sink is much harder than I thought it would be, perhaps I am too floaty…???
Given the time and effort you would normally spend trying not to get your DLSR camera wet it feels very unnatural to actually submerge it. Additionally when you are used to all the lovely control you have with a DLSR the point and shoot does seem rather limited. However we soldiered on and got a few action shots…
